De Dwerg Schnauzer
De Dwergschnauzer heeft zijn weg gevonden in de harten en de levens van duizenden bewonderaars die houden van haar boeiende persoonlijkheid. De Dwergschnauzer, of MiniSchnauzer, ontstaan in Duitsland, waar het bekend staat als de Zwergschnauzer (“Zwerg” betekent “dwerg” of “midget”). Het ras wordt gedacht aan een kruising tussen de Standaard Schnauzer, de Affenpinscher, en zijn, sommigen zeggen, de Poedel. Ze werden gefokt om dezelfde look te behouden en de kenmerken van de Standaard Schnauzer met een meer handzaam formaat. Ze werden voornamelijk gebruikt op boerderijen voor de jacht op ongedierte, trekken van karren, bewaker van de kudden en kinderen, en die als waakhonden. Mini Schnauzers werden tentoongesteld als een apart ras al in 1899 en werden ingevoerd om de Noord-Amerikaanse continent in 1925.

Ze zijn over het algemeen goed met kinderen, maar moeten onder toezicht met jonge kinderen die misschien plagen of spelen te ruw. Als ze niet goed opgeleid en gesocialiseerd, kan Mini Schnauzers problemen met andere honden, maar meestal goed opschieten met hun leeftijdsgenoten.
